Phatsimo Agricultural Development was launched during 1999. The main business of the company was: Community Development for Poor and Needy Persons and Anti-poverty Initiatives. The business was officially registered as a Section 21 Company on 24 November 2005. Mr Edwin Mabotsa recruited members from the community to participate in the project and engage the Department of Agriculture and Land Reform. After several meetings with the Department of Agriculture and Land Reform, Department of Social Services and the Reconstruction and Development Program, they decided to be actively involved with the program. The project was approved on condition that a feasibility study be conducted. The study was conducted in December 2000 and found that the site was suitable for such a greenhouse project. Companies tendered but most failed to meet the requirements. A contractor was appointed but failed to implement the greenhouse production unit. Finally the Department appointed Vegtech to set up the greenhouse infrastructure in 2006. The company officially started to operate in March 2008.
