Greenhouse Success in the Northern Cape

Phatsimo Agricultural Development has established it first spinnoff company in the Northern Cape, Tshwaraganang Hydroponics. According to Mr Mabotsa, CEO, it is quite an achievement for Phatsimo.

The town of Windsorton is situated 60km north of Kimberley. Diamond mining was the main economic activity in the area. In recent years diamond mining has reduced to such a level that many people are now enemployed. According to Mr Mabotsa this was the main drive behind the initiation of the project. To create economic activity and employement in the area. It was quite a challengeand to get the business  up and running. "Now we are harvesting about 10000 cucumber per week", he says. Tshwaraganang Hydroponics is currently supplying Freshmark in Bloemfontein with cucumbers and is the main supplier from the Northern Cape Province. The success of the project can be attributed to the team of stakeholders that is involved (Department of Agriculture and Land Reform Northenr Cape, Agribusiness in Sustainable Natural African Plant Products and the National Development Agency) and off coarse the very hard work the employees of Tshwaraganang Hydroponics is doing every day of the year.
